Telugu Language Word Processor with Spell Checker (based on statistical model)

How to Install and run:
--------------------------

Note: For Windows XP/2000 follow the Method II. For other platforms
either method I or method II can be followed:

Method I: Automatic Installation:
For Microsoft Windows (win95/98):

1. Goto command prompt
2. Change current directory to that where you unziped the Akshara.zip file.
3. Run install.bat by issuing command 
install <Directory_into_which_Files_To_be_Copied>
(give the complete path starting from root) at command prompt.
(if the directory not specified it will copy files into c:\AKSHARA).


Method II: Semi-automatic Installation:

1. Install JAVA if not present in the system.

2. Install fonts: (copy the fonts in fonts/ directory into the
standard location for Fonts like c:\windows\fonts in win98)

3. Copy the required files of AKSHARA into a directory on the hard
drive: These files are in the AKSHARA directories. See the
install.txt in AKSHARA directory for details. (copy all the files
in this directory into the directory where AKSHARA has to be
installed).

Note: Please do not delete or modify the files in the directories
users/ , userdirs/, map/, images/ and glyphs/.

Troubleshooting:
-----------------------

1. If AKSHARA does not recognize fonts after installation, restart the
machine and check again.

2. If you get a "so and so file not found" error, see the file
"program files\akshara\path". This file should contain the path of
the directory into which AKSHARA is installed. If there is a
mismatch modify it so that it matches the installed directory.


HOW TO RUN AKSHARA:
---------------------------------------

Create an icon for AKSHARA on your desktop: Right click your
mouse on the desktop area, and select new and then
shortcut. Specify AKSHARA as the name and c:\AKSHARA (or
whatever is the actual path where AKSHARA executable is
found).

You may also run AKSHARA by directly typing AKSHARA at the
command prompt. Make sure that the AKSHARA directory is in the
path.



System requirements:
-----------------------

Platform: Any Microsoft Windows Platform including Windows 95,
Windows 98, Windows XP, Windows 2000, etc. A minimum of 128 MB
of main memory is recommended. 

Fonts: One set of fonts for all Indian languages supported has
been developed by the Resource Centre for Indian Language
Technology Solutions, University of Hyderabad and included in
this distribution. Future versions of AKSHARA may support
multiple fonts from various vendors.
